Louis Philippe bronze shelf clock, figure of lady, holding letter with inscription "Moi, Ninon de l'Enclos promets…" and standing beside table mounted with clock face, base with scroll and acanthus leaf borders, French brass works marked "Pons", with key and pendulum, second half 19th century, 16-1/4 x 12 x 4-1/2 in. Old polished surface with very minor surface flaws, lady lacking pen in right hand, works with some replacement screws, otherwise excellent condition, in running order at time of inspection.

Charles Philippe King of France DsS Lot of 2 DsS plus an envelope with seal. Manuscript document 1p with translation. N.d. n.p. stated. This is a request from the Count Fois de Douhet de Sourzac for a pension for his years of service. He indicates that because of that service he has has to sell of much of his property and purchase his own equipment for the service. Now he finds himself without an appointment (and without any income). Along the side in the King's hand is a statement (translated) that he wants someone to look into this request in which he is interested and signed Charles Philippe. Second document is partially printed 1p Wimbourg 10 July 1799. Signed Charles Philippe. Appointment to the Royal Order of St. Louis. Condition: Toning to both. manuscript letter has tape reinforcement on verso along right edge; minor scuffing and short margin tears on left edge. Printed document with edge foxing overall toning old folds.

Two French 19th-Century Historical Heads-of-State Medals, including a bronze medal by Jean-Jacques-Barre (1793-1855), commemorating the 1842 death of the Prince Royal, the obverse with a bust of Louis-Philippe and the legend "Louis Philippe I/Roi des Francais", the obverse with a portrait of Ferdinand Philippe, Duc d'Orleans (1810-1842) on horseback and the legend "L'Armee de Duc d'Orleans Prince Royal/M.DCCC.XLII", dia. 27 mm; and a copper medal by Armand Auguste Caque (1793-1881) commemorating the election of President Louis-Napoleon (1808-1873) in 1848, the obverse a bust of Louis-Napoleon (1808-1873) and the legend "Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte", the obverse with an allegorical scene of Liberty enthroned upon the richness of France and casting her ballot for Freedom, and the legend "Election du President par Le Suffrage Universelle/X Decembre MDCCCXLVIII", dia. 78 mm, both touchmarked on the edge with the "hand" medal mark in use 1845-1860. The first medal commemorates the death of Ferdinand Philippe, Duc d'Orleans, the Prince Royal, son and heir of King Louis-Philippe, who died in a carriage accident on July 13, 1842. Had he lived, he would not have inherited the throne; Louis-Philippe, last King of France, abdicated during the Revolution of 1848 and fled the country. He was replaced by Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte, whose election as President of the Second Republic is commemorated by the second medal in this lot. Constitutionally prohibited election to a second term, Louis-Napoleon staged a coup d'etat in 1851 and was created Napoleon III of the Second Empire; he would himself be deposed in 1870. Thus, these two medals depict the last two Monarchs of France.

French 18th century book plates depicting decisive battles; King Philippe-Auguste established France's military pre-eminence with the 1214 victory at Bouvines. The first hand colored scene recreates Mathieu II (Mathieu the Large) of Montmorency presenting his city to the King along with the standards of the defeated English King John. The second hand colored plate shows the French hero Francois of Lorraine breaking Charles V's siege of Metz in 1553. The plates are dated 1788 and 1792 respectively. 10" x 6 7/8". Good condition.
